Joseph Conradの<i>A Personal Record</i> and <i> The Mirror of the Sea</i>を古本屋に注文し、本日届きました。↓のしぶいおじいさんがConradです。もと船乗りのポーランド人で、イギリスに帰化してモダニズムの先駆けとなるような小説を書きました。日本人には、映画『地獄の黙示録』の原作を書いた人と言った方がわかるかな？

序文でおもしろいと思ったのは、次の部分。

「私は物書きという点では革命的ではなかった」と述べていますが、それはウソだと思います。これまでの伝統的な物語りの形式を覆すような語りのスタイルを提示していると思うのですが…。何に対する「忠誠」(Fidelity）なのかも気になりますね。
